In response to the need for a full-time, privately funded organization to represent the growing hospitality and visitor industry in the Greater Comal County area, a group of industry professionals joined together in January 2012 to create the Hospitality and Visitors Association (HAVA). I am a long standing board member of this organization and wanted to highlight some of their events coming up this month.
First, HAVA has teamed up with the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce to host a Hospitality Appreciation Event on May 19th and 20th at Cooper’s BBQ from 8:30 am – 10:00 am for anyone currently working in the hospitality or service industry in New Braunfels and surrounding areas. Courtyard Marriott will be providing free coffee and breakfast tacos. HAVA will be sharing some useful information with attendees about river conditions, local attractions, downtown, Gruene, and upcoming Summer events. HAVA will also be giving away a $100 Visa gift card to a lucky attendee each day. Local business owners are encouraged to send their staff if possible. For the business that sends the most representatives, they will be giving away a free 1-year HAVA Membership!
Next, in align with our mission “to promote, protect, and improve tourism” HAVA will be hosting a Memorial Day Guadalupe River Clean Up. Volunteers should check in at the Rockin’ R Pavilion at the Gruene location around 9:00 am and plan to clean from the bridge on down. Afterwards, volunteers are invited for a little party! Starting around noon there will be live music, food provided by Cooper’s BBQ and drinks provided by Tri-City Distributors.
Finally, HAVA is bringing back monthly business mixers for the Summer season. Our first mixer will be May 28th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Courtyard Marriott. These mixers are for all current HAVA members to network as well as bring potential new members to get an overview of the organization. Note: these mixers are not limited to tourism related businesses and Hill Country Cottage and RV Resort will be hosting the July mixer. Check out www.havanb.org for more info!
